 The River Thames plays a big part in the activities of towns such as Marlow, Henley and Maidenhead. Each has a summer regatta attended by locals and visitors. The traditional rowing events plus summer marquees make this a very typical English event. The river is a great place for rowing and boating in general.
The smaller riverside towns and villages have boats for hire. Amongst other things to do would be to see the Living Rainforest. This conservation charity has established a series of exhibitions about conservation and the rainforest. That’s going west towards Oxford, but if visitors go east they head towards London.
For the sports enthusiast one of the great race courses is at Ascot. The meetings are held regularly throughout the year, with the most famous Royal Ascot in June. Another great day out in the area is over at Windsor Castle. The oldest fortress in the world, the 900 year old castle is open to the public.
